People say the darndest things at Taupo Bungy.

Posted by isurvived, Saturday 31 October, 2009

At Taupo Bungy it is our job to make people feel at ease and help our customers take the plunge. Nervous and concerned jumpers will often ask questions either upon registration, on the platform or after their jump in the recovery boat.

Now, we realize some people are just not thinking straight before or after they’ve made the decision to bungy, but some of these inquiries are just downright funny!

Here are a few examples:

1.       Will my eyes pop out? Now there is a myth that bungy jumping causes detached retina’s, but in all our years of operation we have never seen a jumpers’ eyes touch the water before they do!

2.       Does it hurt? We are actually in the business of helping customers enjoy a fun & exhilarating experience, not hurting them. If it hurts, there’s a problem.

3.       Have you ever done one (a bungy jump)? It’s a pretty crazy concept to imagine, that someone who is working at Taupo Bungy and especially on the platform and has not given it a go for themselves. Most of us love it!

4.       Are there sharks in the river? Do sharks usually reside in fresh water rivers that run from a freshwater lake? It would be quite exciting waiting for a shark to go past before jumping though!

5.       Has the bungy cord ever snapped? Contrary to this popular belief our bungy cords are made in such a way that this is nearly impossible. Each cord is made up of hundreds of rubber elastic strands that are bound together. The likely-hood that every strand will break at exactly the same time, is slim to say the least. We also check over each cord after every bungy jump it performs.

The crew at Taupo Bungy understands that as nerve-racked human beings, we can all blurt out the darndest things (like the kids), but please forgive us if we piss ourselves laughing!
