Apparently we get a public holiday on the fake anniversary of the Queen’s birthday. Coming up is also Matariki which, in my opinion, is much more relevant in New Zealand than Queen’s Birthday. Matariki being the Aotearoa Pacific New Year or Maori New Year. Matariki is heralded by the rising of the constellation of stars called Matariki; this year this constellation rises today the 4th of June. Matariki is a time to give thanks to Papatuanuku (Earth Mother), Ranginui (Sky Father) and Moana (Ocean).
Also, Taupo Roller Derby has a photo shoot today with Taupo Times. Might just be the best front page of the Taupo Times ever! Funny to see what heading they will put!
Happy Matariki everyone!
